Eric is Disabled, Help Him Get to Dialysis to Live
PLEASE SHARE, help give the gift of independence to this disabled man suffering from 3 chronic diseases so that he may regain the ability to become self-reliant once again! Eric needs to drive to the dialysis treatments & get groceries to live.
If you are able to make a donation any amount will helpful even the price of a cup of coffee, if you are
not able to donate PLEASE share this story in the hope it will reach others!
I organized this fundraiser for my disabled friend Eric with the hope we could raise the funds necessary to purchase adaptive equipment, a hand controlled disabled vehicle or the hand controls to install in a used car. Insurance will not cover the cost. Estimates for hand controls alone are $4000-$5000.
Eric is only 55, he suffers from three chronic diseases, Polycystic
Kidney and Liver disease, also Stage V Renal disease requiring the need for
hemodialysis three days a week. A few years ago Eric was forced to quit a job he loved in the "trucking industry" stripping much of his independence from him and the
ability to provide for himself. He is on disability which is enough to
cover his housing costs, a few necessities and some of his medical bills. He could really use our help, both of his parents are deceased (unfortunately his mother died at 66 from Polycystic kidney disease). He has never asked
anyone for a handout because he is or tries to be as independent as he
possibly can be. During two recent phone conversations I had with Eric he told me the neuropathy (pain & numbness) and swelling in his legs
and feet was getting worse, not better. Most days he is unable to
drive his Scion with manual transmission because he cannot use
the clutch and/or the pedals. He has trouble walking and since he is unable to
feel his feet most of the time he is not able to drive to the grocery store, medical appointments or anywhere, which means he now has to be
dependent on others or services. Where he lives there is no public
transportation or many services available. He mentioned all he really wanted was a way to be able to purchase hand controls for his car, with $300 savings he is not able
to do it alone. When he told me his Scion's Toyota
engine had 411,000 miles on it I was impressed, but also worried it
would not last much longer.
Eric is a genuine guy who would help anyone and always has a smile on his face. He was always very active whether working on his muscle car, working at his parents tavern (Bottom's Up) or loving his job as a trucker/semi driver! If we
can only acquire funds for the hand controls that would be a blessing,
it would be a miracle to acquire the car with hand controls.
If you are able to help give him the gift of independence in this season of giving and good will we would appreciate any assistance. Thank you!
