Help Eric get Lifesaving Treatment!

Our names are Jenn and Dee, and our brother, Eric, could use your help!

In December, Eric went to have routine bloodwork done for his upcoming surgery on a hernia. When the results came back, the doctor said there were irregularities. His white blood cells, liver enzymes and platelets were low. Upon further testing, they found he had cirrhosis of the liver. Our brother has never been into alcohol, so there was no apparent reason for this to happen. After more tests and MRI's and weeks of stress, we finally have an answer. At some point, 20 to 30 years ago, our brother had unknowingly come in contact with infected blood. Our brother is Hepatitis C positive.

There is a treatment for Hepatitis that is highly effective in eradicating the disease. Unfortunately, it comes with quite a high price tag. In addition to the tests he has already undergone in which insurance has not fully covered and more tests to come, the treatment alone, which is about 8-12 weeks, will cost anywhere from $20,000-$30,000. We have been told there is no cure for his liver; however, the treatment will slow if not stop the cirrhosis entirely.

He is the sole income in a home with his wife and three boys. He will be applying for grants at his next appointment, but it is highly likely it will not cover much and waiting for them will put off treatment longer. The faster we are able to start treatment, the better chance he will have.
