As many of you know, I have been discerning a call to the priesthood for some years now. Since entering into full communion with the church, my desire to serve Christ and His people as a priest has only gotten stronger. God has taught me much about humility and grace in this time of discernment. He has also taught me that His plan is always the best...even if it is not always mine.
In discerning what God's plan was and is for me, I happened to be invited to the Diocese of Monterey on the central coast of California to see if God might be calling me to serve His people there. It is with great joy that I am able to tell you that God has spoken through His people and I have been invited to become a seminarian of the Diocese of Monterey. Thanks be to God!
Now, with this invitation comes financial responsibility on my part. As many of you know, I graduated from Multomah Bible College in Portland Oregon in 2009. Though Multnomah was among the most economical of all private Christian colleges at the time, it still cost money to attend. Upon graduating, I found myself with student loan debt of $40,000 (+). Since graduating from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 2013 (which I paid for out of my own pocket so as not to add to my debt from Bible College) I have been steadily paying down the loans.
Now, within this $40,000, are actually two loans: One consolidated loan for around $34,000 and one private loan for about $6500. The Diocese has stipulated that for me to be able to enter the course of studies this coming fall, they would like me to have the $6500 loan paid off in full. So time is of the essence because August is the dead line.
So, you may be wondering, what am I asking for from you and others? "How can help? What can I do?"
First off I am asking for your prayers for my continued discernment. Many of you know that this call to serve the Lord as a priest has been on my heart and mind for many years and I have cherished all of your encouragment and prayers throughout this journey.
Secondly, I ask that you prayerfully conider supporting me financially in paying off this loan of $6500.00 by August of this year. If this can be accomplished I can then fully commit myself to seminary and preparing myself to serve Christ and His people as a priest.
Thank you for your prayers and support of whatever kind! May God bless you!
