I want to start off by saying that I recognize that this is a completely optional recreational activity that I am choosing to do. There are much bigger problems in the world than a dude trying to chase a dream, so if my story doesn’t resonate with you that is okay. I’m going into this with humility, very little expectation, and will be extremely grateful for any support I receive.
My name is Eric Brown. I am a 28 year old husband and father of two amazing girls, and I love to run. I love to run for really long periods of time, usually in the mountains, also known as trail ultra-running. It’s more than just the running though. I love to challenge myself beyond what most people would consider possible, and I crave situations that allow me to push my limits and to learn more about myself. I do this not just to become a better runner, but because I think it makes me better in all aspects of my life. Running, or more broadly, challenging myself has become an integral part of who I am. I think there’s also a chance that I might be pretty darn good at it. Which is why I need your help.
Ultra running is not cheap, especially 100 mile races. Between the race entry and travel alone, they can get pretty pricey. For this reason I try to stay as local as I can, but in order to seek out more competitive and challenging races, I will be required to travel. My hope is that if my story resonates with you, I can get your help to (literally) chase my dream. I have high hopes of running, and possibly being competitive in, some of the biggest ultra races out there. But as an un-sponsored dad working a full time job and side hustle, supporting my family comes first, and I can’t justify doing some of the races I would like to without compromising that support.
I hope that by pursing my talents, challenging myself, and chasing my dream I can inspire not only my own daughters, but maybe someone else out in the world to do the same.
For transparency, this is my current race plan for the rest of 2025:
September 5, Dark Divide 100 Miler
Race Entry: $400
Travel (Non-local race): $400
October 18, The Jackalope Lope 50k
Race Entry: $110
Local race, little to no travel expense
Anything I raise beyond the expenses for these races will go towards miscellaneous race expenses, training, and equipment, as well as future races in 2026 in which I hope to become even more competitive.
If you are reading this, I want to thank you for your consideration alone in addition to any support you may choose to give. And if you have a dream or goal that you’ve been thinking about, that maybe you’ll be inspired to chase it too.
