Help Eric and Margie Rebuild After the Central Texas Flood

Good day to you all! This is John Gilchrist in Dallas writing to share a request: help our LXA brother Eric Hurley and his wife, Margie, who suffered in the recent devastating floods in Central Texas.

Eric experienced extensive home and property damage resulting in significant financial loss when their home in Liberty Hill, TX was severely flooded by the San Gabriel River. Thankfully, they weren’t home at the time and a swift water team rescued the 24-year old friend who was staying while preparing to move to Panama for mission work.

Eric's home was NOT in a flood zone, so like their other 15+ neighbors who were flooded to varying degrees, they do not have flood insurance. Unfortunately, nothing is covered under their homeowners or personal property policies. Thankfully, they qualify for FEMA relief; however, it will only cover a fraction of the costs. Also, they’ve found out that an SBA loan is not available to them. It will be a long road, but they remain positive and thankful to God they only experienced loss of property and possessions, which pales in comparison to the families that have suffered the loss of loved ones.

Remediation began immediately, and as of now, the entire ground floor has been gutted and will need to be rebuilt. All household appliances, large and small, AC units, pool, garage doors, flooring, cabinetry, furniture, fencing, landscaping, etc. and the majority of their personal belongings and precious keepsakes (photos, albums, letters, videos, book collections, etc) were either completely washed away or ruined, and the house has major water damage. Margie’s car in the garage was a total loss.

God is moving powerfully and they’ve had many opportunities to be "image bearers of Christ" to the many volunteers and neighbors who have given their time to pitch in and help. While we will cannot make Eric and Margie whole, we can show them we love and care for them.

They remain confident that God will rebuild this Kingdom ministry home in His perfect way and timing! They trust Him completely, and are grateful for this incredible opportunity to give Him glory and celebrate in advance all that God is going to do in the lives of those who go there for prayer, help, and comfort.

On a personal note, I am doing this because Eric introduced Amy and I many years ago in the Cox student lounge. Eric's simple of act of kindness started a relationship which bloomed into a nearly 40-year marriage!

Any assistance you can provide to help them offset the considerable expenses they now face would be greatly appreciated.

Eric and Margie are remembering and praying for the many others who have lost so much more than them. Thank you for your continued prayers for all who have been impacted by the floods.

All gifts will be given to Eric and Margie to help them rebuild their lives. I will serve as administrator for this fund. As a professional fundraiser for over 20 years, transparency and accountability are absolutely critical in my work. I will provide a complete accounting of funds received and disbursed while keeping all amounts confidential.
