Help equip the Elk Fire Volunteer Fire Departments
Beschermde donatie
My name is Lacie Schwend. I had the pleasure of serving on the Ranchester Fire Department in 2013 and 2014. The picture you see for this fundraiser was our backyard on the night of September 30, 2024.
My family and I reside in the Tongue River Valley outside Dayton, Wyoming. On September 27, 2024, a fire (The Elk Fire) was started by a lightning strike. In the last seven days, it has continued to burn out of control, consuming over 50,000 acres in our beloved Big Horn Mountains.
My family and I were asked to evacuate our home on Tuesday, October 1, at approximately 11:30 pm. The extreme Wyoming wind and dry conditions contributed to the need for a fast evacuation. Our neighbor's homes, our home, and several acres of personal property were spared due to the rapid action of the volunteer fire departments of Sheridan County, specifically Dayton Fire and Rescue and the Ranchester Fire Department. We are forever grateful, and so is our community!
In my family's efforts to help, we want to start this fundraiser. This fundraiser is specifically for the volunteer fire departments in Sheridan County. After their continued efforts in fighting and controlling this monster fire, which is still a large threat to the community and Sheridan County, they will need new gear and equipment.
The funds raised through this fundraiser will be evenly distributed to the following departments: Dayton Fire and Rescue, Tongue River Fire Department, Goose Valley Fire Department, Big Horn Fire Department, Clearmont Fire Department, and the Story Volunteer Fire Department.
No funds raised in this fundraiser will be allocated to individuals or families who need relief funds at this time.
Other key members of the community are reportedly working on establishing a relief fund for the fire victims. Once I know where these funds or relief accounts are, I will post them here.
In speaking with Rick Bilodeau, Chief of Dayton Fire and Rescue, and Jeff Barron, Chief of Tongue River Fire, the most significant need is consumables such as Gloves ($30/pair), Wildland Pants ($230-$250/pair), and shirts ($225/each). I want to gift each Department enough funds to purchase ten pairs of pants/shirts or $2,500.
