Last year, Tony Gurule (our Vice President who's also a speaker & full-time missionary) taught 24 VBS (Vacation Bible School) sessions in four-days and incorporated the Gospel & apologetics into his skateboard-themed, 'young detective training' that was based on J. Warner Wallace's book, "Cold-Case Christianity for Kids".

During those four days of VBS the 1st-6th graders earned tickets through participation, asking questions, paying attention, memorizing Bible verses, good behavior, and more. Then on Friday, ALL of the tickets the kids earned were entered into a spinning basket, and when the tickets were randomly pulled out, they gave out 13 complete skateboard setups to 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th graders, and 14 Tech Deck (skateboard toys) to 1st & 2nd graders!

Now, Tony's been asked to go back and do it again!

However, this time they're switching up the theme and want to make the event even BIGGER than last time, especially since the church had so much great feedback from the leaders about how the ticket incentive improved the involvement of all the kids at VBS. Also last year, the teenage helpers were surprised to find out at the end of the week that THEY were being evaluated as well and 'secretly' earned tickets, so a teenager got a skateboard as well, that odd numbered, 13th skateboard setup!

Last year (with help from some of you) Tony was able to raise over $1,400 to pay for 13 skateboard setups and the 14 Tech Decks, but this year they want even more kids to be equipped with the Truth, the Gospel, and a skateboard!

Therefore, this year Tony's aiming for at least 20 skateboard setups (for 3rd-6th graders, plus a couple for teenage helpers) and 30 Teck Decks for the 1st & 2nd graders! Due to the increased goal (plus some inflation), this year the goal is to raise $2,700.
