Help Edmonton Potters' Guild share their craft

The 84-member volunteer-run Edmonton Potters’ Guild has been setting aside funds to relocate to a larger facility to accommodate more participants and classes. However, with the emergence of COVID-19, EPG has not been able to access their space in the basement of the Victoria School of the Arts, resulting in the main source of operational funds, membership fees, to no longer be available.
Plus, the popular EPG annual fall pottery sale and guild fundraiser, which draws more than 800 people, was canceled for 2020—the first time in its 50+ year history.
Committed to their craft and continuing to teach others, the EPG has found a new location for their teaching studio at 8826 51 Avenue.
Although EPG is transferring as much of their existing equipment as possible to the 3,300 square-foot space, the site needs to be renovated to meet bylaw specifications, including:
- separate kiln room completion
- barrier-free washroom
- air filtration system
- glazing spray booth
The EPG had been putting aside funds for years and received government grants to help with the relocation. However, during the last year amid the pandemic, our expenses continue without membership revenue.
Therefore, EPG is launching this fundraising campaign. We’re reaching out to all pottery and art lovers, and our many friends and loyal patrons, to help us.
When COVID-19 restrictions allow, the new studio space will open and offer more public programming. The artist collective hopes to return to holding its sale featuring functional pottery with wide-ranging techniques and aesthetics by its many members, in the fall of 2021.
