Eowyn will be undergoing her third excision surgery on December 23rd for endometriosis. For years she has suffered with severe pelvic pain and GI issues. Doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her. In March 2022 she was hospitalized and that is when a doctor said it could be endometriosis. She had her first surgery in late July 2022 where she had an endometrioma removed from her right ovary. 13 months later she had another surgery where it was discovered that her endometriosis had spread to her bowels and side wall. She also lost her right ovary and fallopian tube during this surgery. At 19 her fertility odds plummeted due to this horrible disease. She has been diagnosed with stage four endometriosis. For those that are not familiar with endometriosis here is info from Mayo Clinic: “Endometriosis (en-doe-me-tree-O-sis) is an often-painful condition in which tissue that is similar to the inner lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It often affects the ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining the pelvis. Rarely, endometriosis growths may be found beyond the area where pelvic organs are located.”
With stage four it is very possible that it has also invaded her diaphragm. She has a large endometrioma on her only remaining ovary that needs to be removed in attempts to salvage some fertility chances. There is no cure for this painful and invasive disease. The best thing we can do for her is find her the best medical care possible. This past summer she met with one of the top Endo specialist in the country that is also Mayo Clinic certified, Dr Haverland. In an attempt to prevent another surgery, Eowyn started some different treatment options but the pain is so unbearable and she’s losing so much weight due to not being able to eat that she needs another surgery. Dr Haverland is out of network and her full fee of $4000 is due at the pre op appointment or the surgery is cancelled. This doesn’t include hospital fees. Her surgeon has already told us that her case is very complex and she might need to bring an additional surgeon in to help.
