My name is Julie, the owner of the FuffyFerret account. My husband and I have 6 ferrets, two cats, and one car. Our current issue is that last part, our car.
With 6 ferrets, it is incredibly important for us to have a vehicle in case of emergency. As it currently stands, our car right now is a 2006 with the following known issues:
- No air conditioning (thus the ferrets cannot be in the car, especially in summer. The rare times I have had to take them to the vet during the heat, I have literally had to pack their carrier with multiple ice packs. Luckily, our vet is pretty close, but the emergency vets take at least 20 minutes to get to, which causes concern).
- The car has had some kickback the past month or two, so we try to rarely use it.
- Today, the car started emitting a very heavy, odd burning smell, and when I got home, smoke was pouring out from under the hood right as I parked.
- It is over 20 years old; the doors don't all close properly.
- The front seats have heat on year-round.
- The trunk is faulty.
- Other than the AC not working, the air can also only come out from the top window vents or the floor; it is unable to turn and go through the main center console.
We have made do so far, but over the past year, we have been faced with multiple ferret emergencies and quite a bit of loss. The anxiety I feel from the thought that something could go wrong at any moment and I won't have the means to transport the ferrets to get help is very bad.
My main job is running a small Etsy shop as well as doing social media, but that is very inconsistent, and with all the surprise vet bills and the price of living, it would take us years to save up enough to get a replacement. I know it is a big goal to want to purchase a car outright without financing, but with social media as a job, Micah doing freelance, and the unstable economy, I worry, so this would save that headache. I realize this is a larger goal, but depending on what could be done would depend on what type of vehicle we could get.
Honestly, at this point, any car with air conditioning and no monthly payment after the fact would be ideal since then I wouldn't have to worry about taking the ferrets for an emergency or visiting a store. Depending on what if anything can be gathered will help accomplish what type of car we can do.
