Help Ensure Meerkat’s Care and Comfort

Unfortunately, our lovely old lady, Meerkat, has fallen clinically ill after some complications with eating Ap**aws wet food. After consuming the food, Meerkat purged everything in her stomach (and then some), and developed a hoarse grunt with every breath she took.

We made an emergency appointment with a local vet (bless the amazing people at River Valley), where she got fluids, medicine, and an overnight stay inside an oxygen tent (without her human parents for her first time ever).

The next morning, she came home without having any blood tests or x-rays (at our discretion). She was lethargic, and wouldn’t eat, but spent most of the day resting near the water bowl. That night, I stayed up until 7am keeping an eye on her before I got too tired, but she still slept soundly through the night.

This morning, she acted excited to eat her usual breakfast, but didn’t seem to have an appetite. We fed her the prescribed liquid antibiotic and steroid that we were given, just for her to puke up the amoxicillin after about 40mins. And so, after a follow-up call to the vet, we’ve had to take her back in for observation and more testing.

We have a savings account literally labeled “pet expenses,” thankfully, but after the first visit, the estimation is that the account will be more than depleted depending on her current stay.

We just want to make sure Meerkat is healthy and strong enough to get back to her normal, sassy self, with her crispy meows and queen-of-the-house strut, longboarding, playing video games with her dad, and rooting for the Indiana Fever.

Even if all goes well, and Meerkat is returned home safe and sound, all proceeds will go toward her medical bills, both now and in the future.

And in the unbearable case that we’re counting down her last days, we would like to give Meerkat the comfortable passing that she deserves. And to sue the socks off of Ap**aws Pet Food. But we can’t even stand to think about that right now.

Thank you for your time. Even if you don’t donate, please feel free to share some kind words for Meerkat, or some emotional support for her human parents.
