My sweet baby Onion was diagnosed with FLUTD due to a urinary blockage this past weekend after a visit to the emergency vet clinic. I had a vet appointment set for the very next week, but I knew something was wrong, and I wasn't able to wait for that appointment. I ended up having to leave him at the hospital because he needed to be watched over to make sure he would be okay. I was told I would be able to pick him up after two days. I had to put an initial deposit of $2,000 down out of pocket for him to be able to stay, and I was quoted $3,000-$4,000 for the entire stay. After a 48-hour stay at the emergency vet, I was told by the vet who was working with Onion that he recommended he stay another night, saying that in order for this to happen, they needed me to put down another deposit of $1,000. I barely had enough to pay the original estimate, so I decided to take him home. In the end, the entire vet visit cost $3,273.44. After he arrived home, his behavior seemed strange, so I took him to a local vet I was able to get into earlier the next morning, and they told me he is stable and gave him an antibiotic shot, which cost only a fraction of the emergency vet visit, so I was able to easily cover it. Currently, he is doing very well. He is sleeping in his favorite places and acting like his normal self, more or less.

Unfortunately, this entire situation was a financial disaster for me. Near the beginning of 2025, my right knee suffered a meniscus tear, causing me to be unable to walk properly or work for nearly a month, which was incredibly hard on me financially. Then, just a few months ago, I had gotten into a car accident that totaled my car, which had a gigantic impact on my financial situation. I had bought an old used car, which then promptly died on me, and I had to decide to finance a car. I was still somewhat struggling from both of these events up until right before Onion had to go to the emergency vet clinic. In order to pay the rest of my bill for the emergency vet, I had to open a CareCredit card, which will already immensely take a lot of stress off of paying it immediately, but I'm still struggling. After all of this, I have roughly $1,500 left, which I need to use to pay my bills this month. With FLUTD, specifically with Onion's urinary blockage, issues can pop up whenever, as it's a disease that never goes away, and most treatments simply lower the chances of a blockage, which means Onion is at risk of needing to make another vet visit at any time. One of the options for treatment that is currently out of my price range is getting him a Perineal Urethrostomy, which still doesn't fully eliminate the possibility of him getting another blockage, but greatly lowers the risk of it. The surgery can cost anywhere from $2,500 to $6,000, and most pet insurances will not help cover the cost since this counts as a pre-existing condition now, and pet insurances that do cover pre-existing conditions won't go into effect for me until next year, which may be too late for Onion. I want to be able to have the option to do all that I can to make Onion's life as amazing and beautiful as possible, but it seems nearly impossible when I don't have the funds to do so, which is why I believe I should open this GoFundMe.

All money raised on this GoFundMe will go directly to ensuring Onion lives the best life possible. The money will go to his new prescription food, preparing for vet visits in the future, paying off this past emergency visit, and saving for the option of surgery if his needs demand it. I'm currently searching for a second job and working as much as I can at my current job, so I don't want to ask for more than an amount that I believe would simply take some weight off my shoulders while I work to keep Onion happy and healthy. Thank you so much for reading, and if you donate or share, thank you so much! Every little bit counts, and Onion and I are eternally grateful for any support or love that is sent our way!
