Hi! We’re the Skyview All-Stars, six kids from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and this is our first year doing Destination Imagination. We had no idea what we were getting into when we started, but we are so glad we did.

Destination Imagination is a global creative problem solving competition for students. Teams are given a challenge at the beginning of the season and have months to come up with their own completely original solution. No adults can help us with the actual challenge. Everything from the engineering to the performance to the props has to be designed, built, and presented by us. It teaches teamwork, creativity, and how to think on your feet, and it is one of the hardest and most rewarding things we have ever done.

We spent months building, designing, and rehearsing our challenge together. None of us had ever done anything like this before. We figured things out as we went, got frustrated sometimes, laughed a lot, and somewhere along the way became really good friends.

At Regionals, we placed 2nd. We went home and got back to work. We improved our engineered structure, tightened up our performance, and showed up to the Colorado State Tournament ready to give everything we had.

Then something scary happened. Right in the middle of our challenge, in front of the judges and a live audience, our structure started to fail. We could have panicked. We could have stopped. We didn’t. We kept going, fixed it on the spot, and finished our challenge. When the results were announced, we had placed 2nd in the entire state of Colorado.

Now we have been invited to compete at the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Kansas City this May. Teams from all over the world will be there. We earned our spot, and we really want to go.

But we need help. The trip costs $10,000 when you add up travel, hotels, registration, and everything else. That is a lot for our families to cover on their own, and we are reaching out to our community because this experience has meant so much to us.
