Help Emy and her daughter get into long-term, sustainable housing and build the future they've dreamed of
Emy is a loving, hardworking single mom, auntie, student and friend. Despite her persistence, she and her daughter have had a hard couple years and haven't had access to housing stability, even before the pandemic made everything that much harder. Emy and her daughter now have the opportunity to move into stable low income housing - if she can come up with the money needed for moving costs.
Emy just started a new job this month, and will be able to pay January's rent and the security deposit when she gets her first check. However, cuz it's the government, they are counting the day she viewed the apartment (12/9/20) as her first day there, and are charging her December rent, too ($850). They also want her to provide her own fridge, which will cost approximately $500 plus delivery. We also need to cover moving costs, approximately $400, because Emy doesn't have transportation and needs to pay for movers and a truck. We are fundraising for these extra costs because Emy has been out of work for over 8 months due to a pandemic whose harms have disproportionally and unfairly landed on queer, disabled BIPOC like Emy and her family.
Emy and her family have been struggling since before corona; the pandemic just made the barriers under white supremacist capitalism higher. After the devastating loss of her baby son, Sebastian Noah, who was born prematurely in October 2018, Emy still managed to start a business cleaning homes. She cared for her daughter, who was also grieving, continued to work as a child care provider, and also took the major step of going back to college.
This chance at stable housing will allow Emy to focus on finishing her degrees, parenting her daughter, grieving her son, living her life and moving her family out of poverty, and into the future they deserve.
Please share widely, and every bit helps. You can also donate directly to Emy at Venmo: @EmyCo11 Cashapp: $EmyCo11
