Help Emmy Pass Peacefully at Home
Donation protected
I am looking to cover the cost of in-home euthanasia and private cremation for my senior rescue dog, Emmy, who has developed cancer in both lungs, kidney failure, and heart disease. She has been with me the last 7 years provided me comfort through the most difficult times in my life. Now that her life is at an end, I want to help her pass on as calmly and compassionately as possible.
When we adopted her in March of 2017, she had been found living on the streets in rural Kansas and had been taken in by a local rescue organization on the day she was set to be euthanized.
She was a very timid, very sweet dog. Despite the fact she had been living on the streets, she also showed signs of past abuse by humans, cowering in fear and falling over in submission if you stood over her or raised your hands above her head. It was difficult for them to estimate her age because her teeth were in bad shape from eating garbage and roadkill.
She quickly acclimated to a life of regular feedings, love, and a lot of comfortable sleeping spaces. Her personality blossomed and she became my closest and most cherished companion.
In March of this year, Emmy was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and mitral valve disease. She started lifelong medications and her prognosis was good. At the end of September, she caught kennel cough and despite treatment was not improving and had stopped eating. A return visit to the vet with x-rays of her chest revealed nodules in both lungs which were determined to be aggressive, metastasized cancer, and her blood work revealed kidney failure.
We are doing our best to keep her comfortable but her condition is terminal and quickly progressing. We are hoping to do in-home euthanasia as we want her last moments with us to be in a place where she feels comfortable and safe. Estimates for this procedure are $345 USD. I would also love to have her privately cremated and have her ashes returned to me as she has gotten me through the most difficult parts of my life so far and imagining not having her with me breaks my heart. Private cremation for a dog her size is $228.
Any funds raised past the intended goal will be put toward her most recent veterinary bill which totals $689.52 for an exam ($49.75), extended blood panel ($184.70), 2 x-rays ($280) and an x-ray consult ($110), anti-nausea medication ($24.87), and subcutaneous fluids ($40.20).
