Earlier this summer Emmanuel discovered a lump under his arm. Concerned, he had it examined and unfortunately everyone's worst nightmares were confirmed. The lump was cancerous. It was successfully removed, but Emmanuel was diagnosed with Stage 2 Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He began chemotherapy treatments last weekend and at this point the doctors are recommending 8 treatments in total. After the chemo is completed they are also suggesting radiation therapy, which will require the family to travel from Mazatlan to either Durango, Culiacan or Guadalajara.
Emmanuel has been working for the Looney Bean in Mazatlan on and off for several years. Luckily he was employed when they discovered the cancer and does have the Mexican national insurance coverage. This will cover a small portion of the care but the reality is the Diaz family has already paid a large amount out of pocket for the initial studies and treatments. They have exhausted their savings and are doing everything in their power to earn extra money to cover the ongoing costs of this treatment. Now is our time to come together and support Emmanuel and the Diaz family when they need it most.
If you have been to Mazatlan, there is a good chance you have met the Diaz family. Javier (Emmanuel's Dad) is the "unoffical mayor" of Mazatlan and has done many things over the years. Giving surf lessons, running a church and a surf shop, and always helping those around him. Mexicans, Americans, Canadians, or wherever you were from in the world, Javi always had everyone's back and was there with a strong hug, huge smile and an encouraging word when you needed it.
Emmanuel is more reserved then his father but his heart is full of the same overflowing love. Emmanuel is one of the best workers Looney Bean has ever had. He is a very bright kid, super respectful with an extremely strong work ethic. He has a bright bright future ahead of him but is focusing now on beating this. Let's show Emmanuel and his family just how much they mean to us. Please give today to help cover the costs of Emmanuel's treatment
