Location: Stollery Children’s Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta
Meet Emma Oliveira‑Savard, a brave 13‑year‑old girl whose world has been turned upside down by autoimmune encephalitis. Emma is currently hospitalized at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, fighting for her life. Her loving dads, Chris and Derek Oliveira‑Savard, are by her side around the clock.
Autoimmune encephalitis is a rare but serious condition where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the brain. Emma began experiencing sudden seizures, confusion, and cognitive decline. Tests and scans confirmed the diagnosis, and the Stollery team is working tirelessly to stabilize her with IVIG, steroids, plasmapheresis, and specialized neuro‑rehabilitation.
Why We Need Your Help
Despite Canada’s healthcare coverage, Emma’s treatment journey brings many unexpected costs:
The road to recovery will be long with an anticipated stay at the glenrose hospital for rehabilitation
Extended hospital stays and clinic visits
Travel between home and Edmonton for appointments
Everyday living expenses for Chris & Derek as they remain by her bedside in the coming months
Funds raised will go directly to the Oliveira‑Savard family to cover these costs, allowing them to stay focused on Emma’s recovery with as little financial stress as possible.
Our Goal
$30,000 CAD — to support Emma’s immediate and long-term medical care, therapies, transportation, and living expenses.
