Help Emma Hopkins recover from 2022 Lismore Flood
Donation protected
Emma was rescued from the roof of her home in South Lismore on 28 February 2022, after 7.5 hours in the rain. Civilian help arrived four hours into her ordeal but she selflessly told them to take her neighbours first because she could hear their children screaming and crying for help. No-one came back to get her for another 3.5 hours. The water kept rising all through that time as deceased and distressed horses and cattle floated by. She feared for her life and thought it might be the end for her.
Emma has lived in her rental home in South Lismore for 11 years. She raised her daughter Lily there and she does casual work from home designing and making costumes and clothes for private clients. She also works casually as a seamstress for Perfects Drive-Thru Drycleaners, now also completely destroyed.
She survived that morning with the clothes she had on, a hand bag and a palm size soft toy of Lily's. That's it. Everything else has been lost. This not only includes every beautiful little memento, piece of art or decoration Emma chose to make her house a home, it also includes her musical instruments, every piece of furniture, a car and all of her sewing equipment: four Bernina sewing machines, three overlockers and a large Toyota industrial machine. Everything.
Her employers, Lachlan and Jessie, have been very good to her and have said they don't want to lose her as a worker. They are going to try to rebuild and so is Emma but she will be without a livelihood for a while to come.
Please help our dear strong, resilient Emma rebuild her life and livelihood by donating here. Every little bit makes a difference as people here in Lismore are overwhelmed with so many people to help.
