Help Emma Heal from Mold Illness

Hi, my name is Emma and three years ago, aged 27, I began displaying symptoms of an unexplained autoimmune condition. These included severe shortness of breath, heart issues, neurological and digestive problems. I have spent the last three years desperately seeking answers from neurologists, gastrologists, various specialists..I spent hundreds of euro trialling expensive supplements recommended on community groups, desperate for answers, but none came. My doctor also prescribed a drug called mirtazapine - an incredibly powerful antidepressant to help my sleep and digestion. I was not informed of the risks, especially given my condition, or how difficult it would be to stop.

By August I was suffering severe side effects, and my doctor informed me it would be safe to stop the medication. This threw me into dangerous cold turkey withdrawal, resulting in tremors, jerking and severe akathisia (inner restlessness and terror). I then reinstated on the advice of my doctor and the mirtazapine support community in order to begin a slow taper, but I have not been able to stabilise since. My original autoimmune condition has also drastically worsened and my quality of life is zero. I have completely lost the ability to live a normal life, including the ability to drive, am allergic to most foods and fragrances and these allergies are worsening. I have daily consistent shortness of breath and have lost count of the amount of times I have presented to the emergency department.

Conventional medicine has completely failed me, and my last hope was to see a functional medicine doctor, given the complexity of my case. When I originally created this GoFundMe, I was still without a diagnosis. Through your support, after being able to finally see a functional medicine doctor for advanced testing, I now have one: CIRS aka mold illness. As of August 20th 2025, I have tested postive for 4 different levels of mycotoxin and the levels of mold in my body are 3x over the upper limit. Unbeknownst to me, the water damage in my home from a 3 year old leak has been wrecking havoc on my body and caused an autoimmune illness. I now have to begin the lengthy process of detoxing from the mold and finding somewhere safe to live, as mold remediation is simply too costly.
