Emma Carolina's Fight Against Cancer (DIPG)

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Hearts,

We come to you today with heavy hearts but hopeful spirits as we reach out for your support for the parents of our beloved Emma Carolina Medina Clamens. Last summer (2023), our world was turned upside down when Emma was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive brain tumor. Since then, Emma showed remarkable strength and courage as she faced this battle head-on.

Last fall (2023), Emma underwent radiotherapy treatment, showing immense bravery and resilience throughout. However, the fight against DIPG was relentless, and Emma's journey led her to pursue further treatment options. Earlier this year (2024), she traveled to the USA to participate in a clinical trial with OCN21 in Iowa, a decision made with hope for a brighter future.

Emma spent several days in the intensive care unit (ICU), surrounded by her devoted parents, Gisela Clamens and Edinson Medina, her loving brother, Eduardo Paúl, and numerous family members who cherish her deeply. It was in that moment of profound need that we humbly started to ask for your assistance through this fundraiser. The palliative treatment Emma required was not only emotionally draining but also financially burdensome. The costs of ICU care added an additional layer of strain on Emma and her family.

Here are some facts to provide insight into the kinds of treatments and care terminally-ill children often require:

- ICU Stay: The intensive care unit (ICU) provides round-the-clock monitoring and specialized care for critically ill patients. The costs associated with ICU stays can be substantial, covering medical equipment, medication, and specialized staff.

- Palliative Care: Palliative care focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness, with the goal of improving quality of life for both the patient and their family. This can include pain management, emotional support, and assistance with practical needs.

- Diagnostic Tests: Terminally-ill children often require a range of diagnostic tests to monitor their condition and guide treatment decisions. These tests can include imaging scans, blood tests, and other specialized procedures.

On March 23, 2024, surrounded by her devoted family, Emma Carolina Medina Clamens, age 7, peacefully departed at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Your support would mean the world to Emma and her family. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to alleviating the financial stress and allowing Emma's parents to focus their grieving process and moving forward with her memory.

Let's rally together as a community, showing Emma's parents that they are not alone in this. Together, we can provide them with the resources and strength they needs to continue honoring Emma's memory.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, generosity, and unwavering support during this challenging time.

On behalf of Emma, Gisela, Edinson and Eduardo,

Jenny Campos (as Organizer, supporting the coordination of this fundraiser) and
Eunice Medina (as Beneficiary, supporting the process of getting the donations to Emma's parents)

Emma Carolina y su Lucha Contra el Cancer (DIPG)

Queridos amigos, familiares y corazones bondadosos,
