As many of you know, my sister Emily was diagnosed with an inoperable grade III astrocytoma a few weeks ago. Prior to this discovery she was a completely healthy 20 year old in her second year at community college, taking classes and working towards getting into their nursing program. This diagnosis will put those goals on hold for now and will force her to undergo six weeks of chemo and radiation (with months of continuing chemo to follow) at the University of Michigan. The medical professionals at U of M are confident that her tumor will respond to the chemo and are very hopeful that she will one day be cancer free. However, she will need to stay in Ann Arbor for 6 weeks while she undergoes treatment. Any money raised would go towards her living expenses during those few months. In addition, a possible side effect of this chemo is infertility. In the hopes that one day Emily can have a family of her own, this money would help pay for the treatments, medications, and any longterm costs that come with the egg harvesting process and will most likely not be covered by insurance. Our family is so appreciative of any donation, well wishes, and/or prayers that can be offered!
