On Tuesday night Emily woke up to a fire that destroyed her home and harmed her family.
On Friday her father passed from fire-related injuries. She shared the following with her network:
"This is not a LinkedIn Business
Update. This is not about a promotion or a new job offer.
I just lost my hero, my best friend, my pillar, the person I’d pick to be my father a million lifetimes, over and over.
I lost my favourite person, my confidante and my safe space, in the blink of an eye. He died tragically after our apartment burned to the ground, my partner managed to save him initially from the fire, he later succumbed to his injuries. My dad is gone and I am half of who I was.
He was not perfect but he was mine. I am absolutely devastated and I am in a pain I have never felt, a sorrow I cannot express, a void that I will always feel. I lost the person I call to tell the good news and the bad news to, my sound board and my joker, a beautiful soul too soft for a world built around supporting those who become too hard.
I have experienced loss, in all forms, in my life. But I have never felt this emptiness, this absolute lack of what was never supposed to happen.
You would have been the best grandfather, you would have been their number one fan. We were going to pick blueberries, dad. We were going to celebrate my birthday, cabins and chalets and beach bonfires.
I am utterly devastated. I am not who I once was.
I miss you so much dad. I miss you, I want you back so bad, we weren’t done. You left me too soon. I am not me without you.
Love your family close. Hold them because it can all be ripped from you so quickly. Take the afternoon off and spend it with those around you. Take your vacations. Do not, ever, feel guilty for spending time with your family.
Appreciate the small moments, they will become the big ones. My dad was my super hero without a cape and I will never let you die in vain, my sweet, soft soul "
