Help Emily recover from devastating House Fire
Donation protected
Hi My Name is Nephtaliem. I’ve started this Gofundme for Emily Gibbs who desperately needs it. Emily Gibbs is someone very special to me and she has just suffered some devastating losses from a fire that occurred in her apt. a couple weeks ago. On Tuesday January 25th Emily was home alone with her beloved cat Otis in her the Apt at 259 Broadway in Cambridge
that she shared with three roommates. At around 11am, from her bedroom she heard a fire alarm down the hall and rushed to that side of the Apt to find her roommates room was engulfed in flames presumably from a candle left burning earlier by her roommate before they had left for work. Emily dialed 911 and grabbed her cat Otis and pushed him out of the door of the Apt to save him. Emily then went back in and crawled under the black smoke to try and find and save her roommates cat. At this point the downstairs neighbor ran upstairs to make sure Emily was out of the house. When he opened the door, a very scared Otis ran back into the Apt. The police quickly arrived and pulled Emily and the neighbor out of the Apt and firefighters began to extinguish the fast spreading fire.
This is when I arrived at the scene to find Emily screaming and desperately pleading for them to find her cat. It was a harrowing experience to say the least. It took a couple of hours to get the fire fully under control and the firefighters were able to rescue the neighbors cat, her roommates cat, but Emily’s beloved Otis did not make it. Everything she owned and all she had was ruined by either fire, smoke or water. The Apt at 259 Broadway was destroyed and all possessions lost but the most horrible and irreplaceable loss of course was Otis.
The Red Cross, The city of Cambridge, and Cambridge Cat Clinic we’re very kind and helpful with resources available, but it falls short of what Emily needs to start over. Your donation will be used for replacement of everything that she lost big and small as well as securing a new place to live, basic furniture and living essentials. If there is anything left over, she will use the funds for much needed grief therapy and therapeutic rehabilitation as she tries to recover from the horrors of what had happened. Her entire family lives in upstate New York and she came here to Boston with all she had and her beloved cat Otis only two years ago to complete her post graduate education with an internship at Mt Auburn Hospital to become a registered Dietician. She graduated and was certified last summer and was seeking her career path while working at Great Eastern Trading Co in cambridge when this horrible tragedy occurred.
All she truly wants back is Otis her cat, her baby, her beloved friend and whole heart. Although that isn’t possible, she shouldn’t have to struggle to rebuild and live. Please give what you can and Thankyou so much
