Since January, I’ve been grappling with numerous health challenges, as some of you may know. After enduring months of pain, I finally made the decision to visit a doctor in May, as my job was at risk due to my frequent absences. I was placed on medical leave and subsequently qualified for short-term disability. After several MRIs, it was revealed that I had a severed tendon in my ankle, a broken bone floating around, and a tight Achilles tendon. Surgery was performed to address these issues. However, the MRIs of my back and neck indicated possible spinal cord narrowing, bulging discs, and other concerns. I began physical therapy three times a week, along with a series of cortisone shots. After eight rounds and five months without relief, I sought a second opinion. A spine specialist reviewed my MRIs and conducted additional x-rays, concluding that my back and neck were fine. Unfortunately, I continued to experience pain, numbness, tingling, and changes in skin color, with my legs turning purple and an inability to lift my arms. The doctors suspect I might have lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, and I’m currently undergoing tests for these conditions.

During this time, my short-term disability and FMLA leave have expired, prompting me to apply for long-term disability through work. However, my doctor won’t allow me to return until we understand what’s wrong, as there are days when I can barely get out of bed. Consequently, my employer decided to terminate my position. This loss of employment also meant I lost my health insurance, and the cost of COBRA is prohibitively expensive. Additionally, following my termination, I learned that my short-term and long-term disability coverage would no longer be valid, which likely means I won’t receive long-term disability benefits either.

My boyfriend has been incredibly supportive throughout this ordeal, but with mounting medical bills and the responsibility of caring for our daughter, along with our regular household expenses, we’re struggling financially. With my income reduced to about a third of what it used to be, keeping up with everything has become increasingly difficult. I’m hesitant to ask for help, as it’s not something I’m accustomed to doing, but I find myself in a position where I really need it. If anyone is able to assist by donating, I would be immensely grateful. To those who have already contributed, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness means more to me than you can imagine.

I still have a long recovery ahead, and I hope to find answers regarding my neurological issues so that I can start treatment and regain a sense of normalcy. Living in this state feels like being trapped in my own body, and it’s incredibly challenging not to be able to care for myself as I once did. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering a donation. I sincerely appreciate everyone’s support during this tough time.
love you all!
-Emily
