HELP! Emily hasn't been paid in 6 months!!!

Donation protected
Hello,
If you're here, you may already know and love our dear Emily: two-stepper, dance angel, yogi extraordinaire, bringer of light and laughter.

Emily took on a 1099 yoga instructor gig with Boeing that was outsourced to an unstable and unreliable company in India, which is now refusing to pay them for over 6 months of work.

We've since learned that the team who hired Emily, as well as the team responsible for backend procurement, was laid off right after Emily started working for the company. For months Emily was sending invoices basically into the void. Emily has been asked many times to fill out the same paperwork over and over. The company continually makes up invoice submission dates. Each time Emily and the stateside Boeing folks who are helping them with this check in, they are told that the money is on the way, and yet 6 months have passed.

They had a consultation with a lawyer but were told that because they’re an independent contractor they don’t have many legal options for pursuing the situation legally.

In the meantime, Emily has sunk deeper and deeper into debt, borrowing from friends and family to cover their basic needs - rent, bills, food, etc.

Emily needs to raise $6,800 to cover living expenses and loan paybacks that are due to loved ones, until they can force their employer's hand and get those shmucks to pay them for the work they have done.

Community is an important safety net in times like these. I want to live in a world where wealth ebbs and flows from those with resources to those in need, and back again when the tides turn. Let's show up for a pillar of our community and help Emily through this tough time. You know they would have your back were the roles reversed.

$5, $100 - any amount helps! Please give if you can. We really appreciate it <3

More details on the complicated situation from Emily, for the curious:
I was hired at Boeing in Jan. During this time I kept getting told that the paperwork needed for payment was almost done. I’d send in requested documents, they’d be accepted, and then two weeks later I’d be asked for them again. This has continued to go on for 10 months. Boeing outsourced all of its contract procurement services to a company in India with extremely high turnover. Often the person assigned to my case changes and when I email them back, that person is no longer working there. I didn't get another job during this time because the answers I got always made it seem like things were almost done and almost ready. Also, I'd worked this job before and really enjoyed it.

The fitness team that hired me was laid off in August. I didn’t know this until a couple weeks ago but the team Stateside that was in charge of making sure people’s paperwork got to the right place was also laid off in August. So for Aug and Sept I sent invoices effectively into the void. I resent them which restarted the 90-day clock of when they have to pay me by.

This is getting sorted but has caused me devastating financial hardship. I’ve been putting all expenses on my credit card, living on a shoestring budget, and cutting any and all possible expenses. I now have what feels to me like significant debt. Currently the new company in charge is trying to get my net90 contract changed to a net30. Once that happens they will have 30 days to pay me instead of 90. I’m hopeful that this will shift soon but my next scheduled pay dates are in January.
