My cousin, Emily Harris, received news that no family ever wants to hear. In September, at just 36 years old, she found a lump, and after a series of appointments, scans, and biopsies, she was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive form of breast cancer that requires immediate and intensive treatment.
In just the past few weeks, she has had a mammogram, ultrasound, two biopsies, multiple consultations, and had a port surgically placed. She began her first chemotherapy treatment on November 26, and she will continue weekly chemotherapy for the next 5–6 months, along with immunotherapy. She also has a breast MRI scheduled for mid-December and will undergo a double mastectomy after chemo is completed. The cancer has also spread to her lymph nodes so she will also need radiation. After that, she will meet with a plastic surgeon to begin the long process of reconstruction.
This has been overwhelming for her in every way — physically, emotionally, and financially. She will lose her hair. She is going through treatment during cold and flu season, which means isolation and extra precautions. And she is doing all of this while raising four children, with only one household income. With two December birthdays, Christmas, and medical bills already in the thousands — with another deductible starting again in January — the financial strain is more than anyone could prepare for.
She has created an Amazon wishlist with things that will make this journey a little more manageable — everything from wigs and hats, to cleaning supplies, masks, snacks, and comfort items.
This is going to be a long, difficult road, and she is scared — understandably so. But she is also strong, and she is fighting.
I’m asking for support — whether it’s a donation, sharing this page, or a message of encouragement for her to read on the hard days. Every bit helps and means more than you know.
Thank you so much for helping lift some of this weight off her shoulders so she can focus on what matters most — beating this and being there for her family.
