Please join our family in supporting my amazing wife, Emily Husum, as she faces a difficult road ahead with her battle against breast cancer.
Em has recently been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and faces an uphill battle for the rest of her life. There originally was a mass that was found by another hospital that was brushed off as “dense tissue” and that it wasn’t cancerous or a concern.
We went on to have our beautiful baby Ellie and noticed after breastfeeding that the mass had changed. Marshall Hospital in Placerville hit the ground sprinting and has been amazing. Unfortunately, they found the mass to be 6cm (very large) and had spread to the lymph nodes. We did biopsies and they found each mass to be ER+, PR+, and Her2-. Tumors that are ER/PR+ are much more likely to respond to hormone therapy than tumors that are ER/PR-negative. However, our most recent scans found more spots that we are currently taking a look at. Our treatment plan is changing but will surely be aggressive for the rest of Emily’s life. This will have many side effects, including fatigue, headaches, and nausea.
Em is an amazing mother to two teenage boys, a stepson, and a brand-new baby girl. You truly couldn't ask for a more kind-hearted person that would do anything to make sure you have a smile on your face. Despite her diagnosis, Em remains an inspiration to those around her. We know she is strong and will fight like no other! Your support is greatly appreciated!
