Daniela, Emily's mother message:

"Emily has been battling leukaemia since she was two years old.  It's been almost 5 years of painful treatment, difficult to bear with chemotherapy, surgeries, transfusions, strong medication, a thousand days of hospitalisation, and punctures. Many punctures!

In the medical history, there is medullary and extramedullary leukaemia. In her life story, there is a busy and involved family, loving nurses, days in isolation, and hours and hours of trips to the hospital.

How does this story continue?

Some time ago, studies confirmed that the disease had progressed a long way and no longer responded to traditional treatments. Everything that could be done in Argentina to cure leukaemia has been done. Today there is no possibility of transplantation.

However, researching and looking for a way to help our beloved little one, we found a light. We have hope! There is a new possibility of treatment and, God willing, healing.

In the Hospital San Juan de Dios , located in Barcelona (Spain), the CAR T  treatment can be performed, a new method that has had very good results in other children with a situation similar to Emily's.

We contacted the director of the hospital and her team. They said that Emily's situation is complex, but that they are going to try to save her.

Today opens this door of hope, the last one we have.

In order to get there, we need to finance the treatment, which is enormously beyond our means: more than 600,000 euros  !

We have very little time. Emily's disease is progressing. It is a race against the clock, but we do not lose faith: Together we can do it!

Many of you have been with us all this way. We are so grateful. We can't believe the support we have! That's why we are encouraged to go for this huge effort!

We ask you to get involved once again - we need you!

Please share this story with those you think can also help us.

Every grain of sand counts and so does every minute!" Daniela, Emily's mom.

Emily's mom Daniela Gajardo's appeal:

Why 15 days?

Emily's disease is now a third relapse of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, after previously undergone two treatments that have failed. The only option left is CAR T-cell therapy, which is the latest breakthrough in immunotherapy treatment  that can be used to treat Emily's type of blood cancer that have not responded to conventional chemotherapy.

"The 15 days represent that as the disease came back three times, if it comes back a fourth time, she could die two days later. And the disease becomes more powerful with each relapse. The clinical study scan  tells us that her little head is full of extramedullary disease in her neck and that is not a good prognosis. The hospital in Spain where we hope Emily can be treated even came close to telling us that they could not accept us, that the only thing we could do is stay at home to wait for death, and that is why it is our race against the clock.” Mariano Perez, Emily's dad.

“The disease is progressing fast and this is the deadline the hospital gave us to raise the money to be able to be admitted for the treatment before the situation worsens.” Daniela, Emily’s mom.

In other words Emily is deteriorating rapidly and there is a high risk that after 15 days she could no longer be treatable with CAR T-Cell Therapy, which is the only option left for Emily. If she does not access the treatment in time the disease will continue its course and basically she would be left to wait for death as she has no other treatment options.

But the CAR T-Cell KYMRIAH is highly effective, and offers hope to Emily. KYMRIAH is a very specific treatment only indicated and approved in patients whose B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia has not responded to or has returned after standard treatment.
