Update from Emily:
Nick and Emily were blessed to be able to buy their new home last summer. One of the requirements for their new home was that it would have an external garage that Emily could renovate into a studio. It has been a life-long dream of hers to finally have a studio space of her own. This garage has good bones, but it needs a little (a lot) of TLC to be usable as a studio. Her plans for the space are to make the downstairs into a sculpture studio/exhibition space and the upstairs into a drawing studio.

ABOUT EMILY:
If you don't know, Emily is a sculpture and drawing artist. She carries an MFA in Drawing. She has exhibited her work nationally and has been featured in several local, national, and international publications for both her drawing and sculpture work. She is also a professor of art and teaches at several college art departments in Michigan. Emily's artwork explores concepts of redemption and faith. With her sculptures, she salvages burnt wood materials from burnt-down homes and repurposes them into forms that cantilever or at times float-symbolizing the concept of faith-believing in what one cannot see. Her large-scale charcoal and graphite drawings are a way of processing these visuals by using experimental drawing techniques.

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT:
Nick and Emily have already started work on the space. With the help of family and friends they have replaced 2 old windows and the man door. They've removed all of the old outdated electrical and are halfway through installing new electrical wiring and receptacles throughout the building. There are some serious sealant/weatherproofing issues around the west side foundation and the garage doors. With the help of a good friend, the foundation issues are being repaired. The garage doors will soon need to be taken out and Emily will be building new doors that will seal and shut correctly. Additionally in the way of weatherproofing, the siding needs to be replaced and outer insulation and house wrap installed as well as new rain gutters.

Once the building is sealed and weatherproofed they can begin insulating and finishing the inside.
BUDGET DETAILS:
While the price for construction materials is constantly rising, this is the current pricing for the project:

God has called Emily to be an artist. While she very much is an artist, she has never owned a space where she can fully and actually operate in her giftings. This space would allow her to develop new ideas and push the boundaries of her work. This would be her space to create and recreate as well as exhibit and celebrate her own as well as other local artist's work. With your help, we can make Emily's Dream Studio possible.
Thank you!

"Emily has been a long time friend. We have cherished her since meeting her, and it has been apparent to us that she truly has a gift from God and an anointing on her life. Not only because of the talents God has given her in the arts, but the imperishable beauty of her selfless heart and character that shine so brilliantly. She pours her heart into her projects, prayerfully and beautifully crafting each piece of art. If you’ve met Emily, you know that she is someone who loves fiercely, walks humbly and gently, and lives with intent, purpose, and passion. She is driven by her love for the One that died and rose for her, and by His Spirit that dwells richly inside of her. It is an honor to be able to support her, and to help create a space for her to be fully empowered to springboard her dreams of growing the Kingdom of God and pursuing people through her talent. As a community and family, it is our pleasure to rally together to celebrate and support our dear Emily Mayo, as a creator for The Creator! We want to invite you to partner with us. This isn’t just about raising money, but creating a support system and team to lift up Emily prayerfully and intentionally as this dream of hers unfolds before her. May we intercede for her in this calling on her life, and all the future projects to come of it. We love you, Emily!" - Melanie and Lauren
