Help Emily After The Fire

It’s never a good thing when your phone rings at 3am.
Emily Rickard has spent her adult life tending to others. She has been a volunteer at Wolfwood Refuge for six years, while working at her local Humane Society (La Plata County), not to enrich herself, but to benefit the lives of animals that need so much. She has been doing this all while pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science degree so that she can better serve the animals in the future. This is just a father’s way of saying she gives so much to others, for little financial benefit to herself. But that phone call!
Your heart skips a beat as you answer, knowing that this may be a dividing line between then and now.
Thankfully, Emily, her two dogs and cat are ok. But, yeah, when the pounding on her door to “Get OUT, the house is on fire” came at 3 in the morning, her first instincts were to get her two dogs and cat out safely, disregarding her own safety and any of her personal belongings. Most of my friends can relate. The animal community always thinks of their animals first.
So, yes, we are thankful that Emily and her crew are ok, but for a 25-year-old, who goes to school, volunteers weekly, and works full time at a minimum wage job, when the house you live in catches fire, you pretty much lose everything, including your home.
Please, if you are able to pitch in a few bucks to help her replace her destroyed items, and get set up in a new apartment, we would be very grateful. And if you aren’t, we ask you to please share this to your Facebook page. The animal community is very wide, and exceptionally giving. This is our chance to give back to someone who has given so much.
