Emilio is a hardworking landscaper who came to the United States in 2023 to support his mother in Guatemala and build a better future. On May 13th, 2026, while on his way to work, Emilio was stopped by ICE, questioned about his nationality and immigration status, and detained. He spent a week in a crowded Miramar office, sleeping on the floor with no bedding due to the number of people held there. Just two days ago, he was transferred to California, where his ability to communicate has been extremely limited.
Emilio has no family here in the U.S. I met him through work, and he quickly became like family to me. He is reliable, respectful, honest, and humble. His biggest dream is to obtain legal status so he can enjoy fishing, his greatest passion, and continue building a better life. Right now, Emilio is feeling lost and confused, but he is not losing hope. He has faith that, with the support of the community and the power of God, he will be free.
The funds raised will go directly toward covering Emilio’s lawyer fees and, hopefully, his bond so he can be released and continue working toward his dreams. Please, even if you’re not able to donate, sharing Emilio’s story helps get the word out. Your support means the world to both of us, and we are eternally grateful for any help you can provide.
