This is the story of Emiliano Lule!
In 1997, during the Civil War in Albania, he attempted to avoid a bomb detonator explosion, trying to save some children from being hurt! It was then when he damaged his eyes.
Though he got some pieces of metal inside his eyes, four years later in 2001, he got on an airplane, as a sighted person, to attempt a surgical intervention in Moscow, but he turned back home totally blind!
It took some time for him to fight the anxiety and depression, but he succeeded, being even a celebrity in Albania. The first visit in 2009, in Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, had an estimation of around $74,000 for the retinal intervention surgery.
In 2017, it was close to $130,000.
Doctors had informed him that he had just one chance to have this retinal intervention.
Now, after the trauma caused by a car accident, he is facing the urgency to perform the intervention.
Also, the medical cost to cover the unexpected medical treatment for the complex fractures in his arm, for which doctors claim to involve orthopedic implants. Again, doctors are not sure of the type of implants that might affect the radial nerve, and it requires very specialized clinics.
