In the New Year, I will be starting the process to change my name and gender marker on all of my official documents. Unfortunately, this costs money, and I would be very grateful for any help in defraying these costs.
• A new certified copy of my birth certificate as my parents won't give me the original: $68.50
• Fee to obtain a name-change order in New York City Civil Court: $65
• Fee to update the name and gender marker on my birth certificate: $30
• Fee to renew my New York State learner's permit: $12
• U.S. Passport application and processing fee: $135
UPDATE: I am beyond grateful for everyone's help in getting to my goal for these legal changes so quickly! I am raising the campaign goal for anyone who would like to help defray the many other costs of transitioning and this journey, but thank you so much for everyone's help!!
Just to recap, other costs include any unexpected fees related to the legal name/gender marker change process, the cost of hair removal (facial and body hair are the biggest sources of dysphoria for me), appointments at Planned Parenthood, hormone replacement therapy and associated medications, and therapy.
