Help Emi the Dachshund Walk Again-Support Her IVDD Treatment
Donation protected
We are raising funds to cover treatment costs for a dachshund named Emi, who lost her ability to walk due to I.V.D.D. (Intervertebral Disc Disease) related sudden paralysis in her hind legs.
Emi is a 4-year-old dachshund who lost mobility in her hind legs suddenly in November 2024. A fairly common back problem in dachshunds particularly, IVDD - Intervertebral Disc Disease is a degenerative condition that affects the intervertebral discs, the shock-absorbing cushions between the vertebrae in the spine. Her T12-T14 vertebrae had become calcified over some time leading to severe spinal compression then causing back half body paralysis and lame hind legs.
Spinal surgery is a very high-risk option, so we decided to pursue alternative treatments with specialists including acupuncture, laser and infrared therapy, water therapy, and Reiki acupressure massage therapy. Her daily home rehabilitation program includes practice on her Wheelies, Back Sling Lift Walking, Back Leg Assisted Walking Motion Tub sessions, Wheel Barrow Walking - essentially encouraging her to develop and improve her own strength and mobility just a little bit more each day!
While she has not yet regained her hind leg mobility, her overall strength and stability has improved so much over the last 3 months, and we are seeing more frequent instances of reflex and feeling in some parts of her back half! And now with a stroller - she is out and about with her doggo friends to the parks and on the canyon trails enjoying outdoor adventures as much as before!
We would like to continue on this course and give our full effort to her rehab. Along with her medications, herbs, her rehabilitation gear /equipment, the cost is over $2,000 per month. We are determined to fulfill the recommended 6 month course which is the general range within which time we will likely see her make a recovery and regain mobility!
Your support will help Emi continue to get the care she needs to regain the use of her back legs! Any contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated. Thank you for helping Emi on her journey to recovery!
