Help Emi go to Barnard!

This fundraiser is set up for my former student. Please read her story here:

My nickname is Emi and I am an aspiring veterinarian hoping to start my first year at Barnard College! When I first received my acceptance letter to Barnard, I was in tears! Being able to attend this historic women's college and being a part of a strong sisterhood is a dream come true. When I received the generous grant from Barnard, my mom promised to fund the remaining $15,000. However, she has since then rescinded that offer, leaving me with no lifeline to pursue my dream of becoming a vet. But not being able to pay the remainder of my tuition endangers my dream of attending Barnard.

As a first-generation, low-income student from the Bronx, I’ve encountered all sorts of financial challenges during my life, but I strive to overcome my financial limitations. Despite these difficulties, I’ve managed to maintain a 3.7 GPA student. I earned my Associates's Degree from Bard College at 18 years old when I graduated from Bard High School Early College Queens. I have already gotten into Barnard’s Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) as a result of my early aspiration in STEM.

As a woman who wants to pursue STEM, I’ve always known I would face gender barriers in this field. Studying at Barnard allows me the feminist support to break into the male-dominated world of STEM. This sisterhood is very important to me to cultivate a sense of community and family. Things I have always longed for.

This $15,000 will cover two semester's worth of tuition that I need to pay. This will be due August 2 and another on December 2nd. I have already taken out a Student Loan and will be employed on campus under Work-Study. I also appealed to Barnard College to help cover the remaining but to no avail.

I have less than a month before tuition is due on August 2, 2021. I have no one else to turn to. I am prepared to meet the challenges of Barnard but I need help this first year. I humbly ask for any donations that would help me make my first tuition payment, and I thank anyone who has come across, donated, or shared this page.

*I am maintaining my anonymity because of my strained relationship with my mom. My former teacher, Zohra Saed is setting up this fundraiser for me. But we set it up together and I am happy to update you on email with my progress and we are happy to provide any extra information you need to verify Barnard's acceptance and breakdown of tuition. I have done all that I can to borrow and work for the remainder of my tuition.
