Help NHD CA champion compete at nationals
Donation protected
Emery is a 7th grader who took the initiative to participate in the Kern County History Day contest, despite the fact his school and district have never participated in it. The reason why he wanted to participate is because he read “They Called Us the Enemy” by George Takei and was angry to learn about the injustice of the Japanese internment during World War 2, noticing that even American citizens were betrayed by their own country and interned, based only on race. Emery wanted to make sure everyone knew about the internment because he himself had never learned in school that this had happened. Emery was fortunate to find Japanese Americans in the community willing to share their experiences of internment with him. Emery won County History Day. Today, Emery won National History Day in California for his documentary and is moving on to Nationals in June to represent the entire state of California. Unfortunately, the travel and hotels for History Day have been very expensive and now he will be flying across the country to Maryland to share the stories of Japanese Americans whose rights were violated during WW2. Because Emery’s school and district do not participate in NHD, every competition comes out of pocket for us. We know the economy is tough for most people right now, so if you support this cause and are able to do so, please consider donating to help Emery fundraise to help pay for this trip. Every little bit helps and he appreciates your support so much! Thank you for reading this.
