Hi everyone, my name is Emerson Murray. Please ignore my legal deadname on this posting lol. I'm a 24yo physically and mentally disabled trans person who's currently in the end stages of leaving my three year long abusive marriage. I've gone through the processes of divorce, getting a car, getting new doctors and therapists and working more hours at my job. I've also been couch surfing (this is my third time doing so- all three times in the last four years have been attempts to leave my abuse situations). None of this would have been possible without the support of my community.
Now, I have one final ask. I have the opportunity to end couch surfing and start my lease early. In order to do that though, I need to come up with roughly $300 for a U-Haul to move my belongings and refill the gas tank before returning it, along with $1,000 for first month's rent. I am on Medicaid and can't make more than $1,800 a month. I am also too physically disabled to even take the amount of hours required to reach that limit.
There are also $800 in maintenance repairs (including labor) that need to be done on my vehicle to keep it going long-term (shocks, weathering around all windows + windshield, an axle leak). I'm also going to need to get new tires later this year, but I can try to handle that on my own.
I'm going to be unable to sort all of this in this final month before I stop couch surfing. I make between $1,200 to $1,400 on average, sometimes $1,600 if I'm able to ask coworkers to give their shifts to me on occasion. I also have a $500 credit card I've used to juggle bills in the past- though those fees are not included in this GFM, if we happen to reach above the goal, that's what those funds will go to. My car insurance costs $163.18, and my car loan costs $109.46. I am paying for my own gas. It's an incredibly tight budget, and although it's doable, without help on this lump sum $2,100 I run a very high risk of still losing everything I've worked for. I am also in the process of getting on SNAP and a housing voucher.
TDLR- I am a homeless disabled trans person in the community who has the opportunity to stop being homeless sooner if these goals are met:
$300 in U-Haul and moving fees
$1,000 in first month's rent
I will also be incredibly grateful if we meet $800, or any portion, of my car repair bills.
Total proper goal: $2,100. GFM will also take a fee portion, so $2,200 would be elite to account for that.
Any additional funds past that will go to paying off my small credit card of $400 of its $500 limit.
Edit: I’ve been asked if I have any other ways to donate! Yes I do, and I will add any donations to this fund so it accurately reflects how close we are to the goal.
