my name is elz and that's what this thing is about.
five years ago, with the support of my mississippi community, I came out as non-binary. i've been going by elz since. twas my childhood nickname and sounds a bit like the Hebrew prefix for G-d, and everybody knows I love Their nebulous ways of being. from little elz who refused to wear a shirt and "borrowed" a sharpie to foreshadow adult tattoo sleeves to adult elz moving to Washington in search of broader queer community, elz is who I am and have always been.
now I live in Washington state where the legal name changing process is fairly straightforward and currently unaffordable for me. that's where you might come in. (I've got a pot of tea on if you do.)
the fee for filing for a legal name change is $298. copies of the official record are required to change my name on all legal, educational, insurance, and financial records. each copy costs $15. to get my indiana birth certificate amended with an updated copy is an additional $160.
I know the World is a frozen over hell right now and there are lots of important causes to be sending money to. If this happens to feel like one such important cause, I'd be so grateful for any and all help.
love to you, your communities, and the magic of names aligning with who we know ourselves to be.
-elz
