I'm Elvis Kwabena Asare Nkrumah, a data scientist and recent Computer Science and Statistics graduate from the University of Ghana. I've just been selected to attend the Deep Learning Indaba 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria (2–7 August 2026) — one of Africa's most prestigious gatherings of machine learning researchers, practitioners, and innovators.

The Indaba has covered my registration and accommodation. What I still need is travel.

A round-trip bus from Accra to Lagos costs around $200. A round-trip flight, which would allow me to arrive safely and with more time to engage fully, runs between $400 and $600. Any amount raised helps — if we hit $200 I make the trip by road; if we reach $500 or more, I can fly.

This opportunity matters to me because the Indaba is where African AI is being built — by Africans, for Africa. I've spent the last year teaching statistics to 500+ students at the University of Ghana, mentoring peers in data science, hosting workshops at the Ghana Data Science Summit, and working on research applying machine learning to across healthcare, agriculture and green energy.

The Indaba is the next step — a chance to learn from the best researchers on the continent, represent Ghana, and bring that knowledge back home.

I'm not asking for much. I just need to get there.
