Help Elvira battle cancer

Lieve allemaal,

Wij schrijven dit bericht met de hoop dat jullie ons willen helpen in hele zware tijden.

Ik schijf dit bericht namens mijn vrouw, mijn zielsverwant, mijn beste maatje, die na 38 mooie jaren te horen heeft gekregen dat er op dit moment geen medische behandelingen meer mogelijk zijn om haar melanoomkanker te bestrijden.

Zij is begin 2020 gediagnostiseerd met melanoomkanker heel kort nadat wij een miskraam kregen. Zij heeft inmiddels diverse operaties en ingrepen gehad om halverwege 2021 te horen hebben gekregen dat ze kankervrij was. Zij heeft 1.5 jaar kunnen genieten van een leven zonder deze verschrikkelijke ziekte.

Zij was weer bezig met het opbouwen van een leven. Het starten van een cariere en om weer een start te maken om de IVF behandeling op te pakken.

Helaas kregen wij in oktober 2022 een zware klap te verwerken. Bij haar 3 maandelijkse CT scan is gebleken dat de melanoom is teruggekeerd. Erger dan voorheen door zich genesteld te hebben in haar lever (orgaan). Zij is weer direct begonnen met Imuuntherapie (infuus). Helaas heeft deze behandeling niet geholpen en is de melanoom gegroeid. De arts geeft aan dat er op dit moment niets meer te doen is dan deze groei af te remmen. Meer kunnen zij ons helaas niet bieden. Dit nieuws heeft ons hart gebroken. Wij hadden nooit verwacht dat dit zo ver zou komen.

Na uren en uren onderzoek heb ik ontdekt dat er op dit moment nieuwe effectieve melanoom behandelingen in ontwikkeling zijn. Deze behandelingen heten Cypep-1 en TIL therapie. Diverse TIL therapie resultaten van de afgelopen jaren tonen aan dat deze effectief zijn en een grote kans op slagen hebben. Bij TIL therapie worden afweercellen (T cellen) vanuit de tumor van de patiënt in het laboratorium opgegroeid tot miljarden cellen en daarna teruggegeven aan de patiënt. Deze afweercellen zijn afkomstig uit een stukje tumor van de patiënt. De behandeling begint met het verkrijgen van tumorweefsel middels chirurgische verwijdering. Vaak wordt hier een uitzaaiing voor gebruikt. Vanuit dit tumorweefsel worden de tumor infiltrerende lymfocyten (TILs) in het laboratorium uitgegroeid tot uiteindelijk miljarden afweercellen. Vervolgens krijgt de patiënt een korte voorbehandeling met chemotherapie om het lichaam voor te bereiden op de grote hoeveelheid afweercellen die gegeven gaan worden. Daarna worden de afweercellen via een infuus teruggegeven aan de patiënt. Dit betreft een eenmalige behandeling.

TIL therapie wordt op dit moment alleen nog gegeven als een experimentele therapie in het kader van een klinische studie. TIL therapie wordt momenteel toegepast bij patiënten met vergevorderd/uitgezaaid melanoom of niet kleincellig longcarcinoom.

Helaas worden deze behandelingen in Nederland niet standaard aangeboden. Wij hebben contact met enkele klinieken in het buitenland gezocht die haar willen helpen. Zij hebben vertrouwen in een positieve uitkomst. Dergelijke behandelingen worden helaas niet vergoed door de zorgverzekeraar. Ik heb op dit moment als partner veel mantelzorg en niet de financiele middelen om deze behandeling te kunnen financieren. Daarom richt ik mij tot jullie, onze lieve helpers in nood, die het mogelijk willen maken voor een jonge vrouw met vele dromen en wensen, om haar leven weer op orde te krijgen.

Wij weten en voelen dat deze behandeling haar leven zal redden! Onze toekomst samen! Wij kennen elkaar al 30 jaar en hopen vele jaren samen te blijven. Geef haar een kans, ik smeek het jullie!

We write this in hope that you can help us during the most challenging times of our life.

I am writing on behalf of my wife, my soulmate, my best friend, my Elvira, who after 38 beautiful years, has been sadly informed that there are no more medical treatments available to her, to treat her Melanoma Cancer.

She was diagnosed in early 2020 after sadly having a miscarriage just a month before. She underwent several surgeries and IV treatment (immunotherapy) which thankfully were successful and allowed the consultants to give her the “all clear” in 2021.

This green light gave us the permission slip to start to building our life again. To pick up where we left off last year. To re energise our dreams. To make choices for our professional careers. To start our own family through help of IVF treatment. To live life to our highest excitement!

But after 18 months, we had a dreaded knock on the door again, our hearts sank as we learned that the melanoma cancer had returned! In October 2022, the doctors provided IV treatment once again (immunotherapy) but her condition deteriorated.

Her most recent scan results have shown a new melanoma growth in her liver. It has reached a critical stage as it continues to grow. This has devastated us and we never imagined we would ever hear this from the consultants.

We do not want to give up the fight!

After hours and hours of research, I have learned that there are new, effective melanoma treatments. These treatments are called the Cypep-1 and TIL therapy. Several TIL therapy research results over the past years have shown that this treatment is really effective.

This is a type of treatment in which tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (a type of immune cell that can recognise and kill cancer cells) are removed from a patient's tumour and grown in large numbers in a laboratory. These lymphocytes are then given back to the patient by infusion to help the immune system kill the cancer cells.

TIL Therapy (in Holland where we live) is still in the research phase, so unfortunately is not available to us. However, the great news is that in other countries such as the United Kingdom and the USA, this treatment is more readily available. This really is a lifeline for Elvira!

Unfortunately as a resident in Holland, treatment abroad is not included as part of our Health Insurance. We have used all of our savings on treatment so far. I am currently working in the day and caring for her at all other times. We don’t have the necessary savings or income to fund this treatment, so we appeal to you to please help us.

I have spoken to several clinics who are ready to accept her for treatment and feel that they can really help save her.

To think that my wife’s life can depend on getting access to this lifeline has inspired us to appeal to your kinder side to support us with any contribution you are able to make.

She has dreams, she has a life ahead. We know this treatment can save her life.

With more successful cases treated by TIL, imagine how many lives of loved ones can be helped and saved now, and in the future.

Please give her a chance.
