Help Elsa Rodriguez Get Crucial Surgery

Estamos necesitando un milagro para esta Navidad. Unas pocas semanas antes de cumplir 80 años, Elsa Rodriguez, mi madre, iba camino a casa desde su trabajo, subiendo por las escaleras de una estación de metro de Caracas, Venezuela. Entre el caos característico, piso en fallo y cayo fuera de las escaleras. Primero hizo impacto con su pierna derecha y su hombro. Por último, golpeo su cabeza contra el concreto. A pesar de haber sangrado por la cabeza (afortunadamente nunca perdió el conocimiento) y de haber desarrollado traumatismos por la caida del lado golpeado de su cuerpo, fue su hombro el que más sufrió daños puesto que sufrió una fractura en el cuello del humero que requiere de atención quirúrgica, una prótesis y materiales medicos. El propósito de esta recaudación de fondos es cubrir los costos de la cirugía de Elsa, sus gastos médicos en general y su rehabilitación postquirúrgica.

Elsa está manejando el dolor con medicamentos fuertes y el cuidado constante de su familia, pero necesita una cirugía urgentemente y el costo está muy por encima de lo que su familia y ella pueden pagar. Ella ha trabajado toda su vida y siempre ha sido independiente. Ayuda a Elsa a recuperar su independencia y calidad de vida.

We need a Christmas miracle. A few weeks before her 80th birthday, Elsa Rodriguez, my mother, was on her way home from work, climbing up the steps of a Metro station in Caracas, Venezuela. Within the characteristic chaos, she missed a single step and fell off the stairway. She broke the fall with her right leg and shoulder but slammed her head against the concrete floor. Although she was bleeding from the head (she thankfully never lost consciousness) and had a traumatic fall on the side of her body that made contact with the ground, it was her shoulder that suffered the most as she sustained a fracture in the surgical neck of her humerus. It is this bone that now requires surgery, a prosthesis, and other materials. This fundraiser is intended to cover the cost of Elsa's surgery, overall medical expenses, and subsequent rehabilitation.

Elsa is managing her pain with strong medication and constant care from her family, but she needs urgent surgery and the cost is beyond her means and the means of her family. She has worked her entire life and has always been independent. She would like to regain that independence and quality of life.
