Campaign ended: Sotiris has passed

Donation protected

(UPDATE: It is with deep sadness that I report that Sotiris lost his battle to cancer this morning. I will provide further details as I am made aware of them. The Elias and I wish to thank everyone for your kindness, prayers and support of the Elia family. I will post more information as it is forthcoming. Please continue to keep the Elia family in your prayers as they grieve this tremendous loss. )

Meet Elpida Elia, a tiny little wisp of a girl, whose name means "Hope”, and her precious loving family. In February, this family would be shaken to its core when Elpida's father, Sotiris, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that had spread to his liver. Although it was a devastating diagnosis, the doctor's offered hope through chemo therapy. Sotiris, only 58 and otherwise heathy, began treatment and responded very well. However, in the months to come he would require a surgical procedure, at which time chemo was suspended. But during his recovery from surgery, the cancer worsened. Now, the doctors have just told the family that he must have a radical and expensive form of chemotherapy every week for the next 3 months at a total cost of $24,000.00, to have any hope of fighting this aggressive STAGE 4 cancer. The family's savings have been depleted and with no assistance programs available to pay for this potentially lifesaving treatment, the Elia family is all out of options. But unwilling to accept that all hope was lost, that tiny little wisp of a girl, whose name means "HOPE", reached out to me in desperation and asked "Is there some way you can help me help my father?" I told her.... just maybe.....and that has brought me here.
I have been a surrogate mother for many years to this little wisp of a girl, that once sat in my classroom and now sometimes calls me "mom". The Elias are my family, not by birth, but by choice and with their permission I have started this account on their behalf.  I "hope", as does that little wisp of a girl, that you can find it in your hearts to give Satiris a fighting chance and give his family a way of making that possible, by donating whatever you can, regardless of how small the donation. Every cent is greatly appreciated and will go to pay for the only treatment that offers "hope" to this family. I thank you in advance and tell you that I, as well as Elpida and the Elia family, thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for your kindness and compassion. Even if you are unable to donate, please share their story and we ask if nothing else, please pray for the Elia family, and especially Satiris in this difficult time. Thank you and may God bless you.
