As most of you know, we found out at the end of August this year (right after her 7th birthday) that my sweet girl Eloise has cancer. Of course, she has a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Feline Injection Site Sarcoma (FISS). This cancer occurs at the site of previous vaccines and only at a rate of 1 case per 10,000-30,000 vaccinations.
We noticed a small lump near her hip in July, but she was acting completely normal so we didn’t think much of it. By August, it was growing though, which prompted us to bring her into the vet for a needle aspiration biopsy which confirmed my worst fears.
My little trooper underwent a tumor resection on September 3rd. She recovered amazingly thanks to all of my amazing friends and her vet team!! Shout out to Hannah for being the best post surgery cat nurse out there!! Unfortunately we found out that the margins were not clean after her tumor resection, so she still has cancer cells inside her. We met with an oncologist who recommended radiation (19 sessions, everyday Monday-Friday) or looking into more surgical options. Not wanting to completely traumatize her, we chose to look into surgical options more. We met with the surgical oncologist who recommended a total amputation of her back right leg for best chances of removing all the remaining cancer. So on October 14th my Wheeze is going to become a tripod Thankfully, cats adapt very well to tripod life. Knowing my Wheezy girl, she’ll be back to parkour in no time!!
Unfortunately, Eloise’s little bump was documented before her pet insurance coverage kicked in, therefore none of her treatment is covered. There’s nothing I won’t do for this sweet girl though, so I’ll be maxing out every card I have making sure this girl gets the best care possible. If you have the means to and would like to help contribute to her medical bills her and I would greatly appreciate it!! Any amount is appreciated!
Also, if you have a pet, get them pet insurance immediately!!!
*see photos for vet receipts. We’re about $14k in now, amputation surgery receipt will be uploaded after surgery- estimation is an additional $8-10k.
