The goodest boy is sick. So very sick. What I thought was just a sprain from his fierce, loyal reaction to the fireworks on the 4th of July turned out to be something far more serious. After days of limping and concern, and two vet visits, we learned he has osteomyelitis, a painful and aggressive bone infection. The infection has already begun dissolving part of the joint in his leg, and to make matters worse, there’s a possibility he’s also fighting blastomycosis, a rare but serious fungal infection.
He’s been in the hospital since Friday. The good news is that he’s started to respond to the antibiotics, which gives me hope. But he still has a long, uncertain road ahead. We’re facing the very real possibility that he may need to have his leg amputated to save his life.
This has been heartbreaking to process. He’s more than just a dog—he has been my comfort. Watching him go through this while staying so brave and sweet is gut-wrenching. Any help is appreciated.
