Help Ellie's Emergency Care Costs

We're a family raising money for sweet Ellie, a 10-month-old kitten who is experiencing a difficult hospital stay as she battles high sodium, among a couple of other complications.

Ellie was found as a much smaller kitten in a cage, being given away for free outside of a small market in Kentucky. As our family welcomed her into the home, she quickly grew into her sassy, but curious, personality, letting people love on her on her own terms (as many cats do). You can usually find her cozying up under a blanket on her favorite little corner of the couch or quietly snoozing under the Parakeet cage.

It came time for Ellie to undergo her spay surgery on April 9th. She seemed to be recovering, as she regained some sort of appetite within 24hrs post-op, but then slowly declined in the following days. Loss of appetite and lethargy became noticeable, and she was taken in to see her vet April 21st.

After bloodwork, her sodium came back extremely high, she had abnormal kidney levels and was severely dehydrated. She was referred to an emergency care clinic, where she was put on fluids. After more tests and ultrasounds that first day, they could not pinpoint her sodium and kidney issues directly back to the spaying, although it's been the only significant event that's happened to her these past few weeks. Vets couldn't say, with confidence, what is the specific cause for Ellie's decline.

Ellie's sodium levels decreased from 200 to 172 in the first two days of being admitted. Her blood pressure has improved and dipped in that time, as well. Ellie's not out of the woods yet. She continues to be monitored under their care, receiving fluids and adjustments in meds, with her neurological status improving. Ellie's been hospitalized ever since and the cost of care has increased, unfortunately.
