Help Ellie Fight for Her Life

Donation protected
Ellie lost her fight, she was the sweetest most loving girl. Her life was cut way too short.

This is Ellie. She came into our lives on March 3rd of this year by chance. Her previous owners were not prepared for her energy; we welcomed her with open arms.

It did not take long for Ellie to work her way into our hearts.
She is spunky, full of life, and more love than her body can contain.
Ellie will lie down right on top of you, demanding love and giving kisses, just before she goes running off to play outside with the other dogs.

On May 7th Ellie went to the vet to be spayed, but pre-blood work showed her platelet levels were very low, meaning her blood wouldn't be able to clot. The surgery was cancelled due to that. She was put on medication and sent home with us.

For the next several days Ellie was acting like her normal self aside from the side effects of the medications, such as drinking a lot of water and having an increased appetite.

On the morning of May 19th Ellie was lethargic and wasn't really interested in eating, though we did get her to eat roughly half of her breakfast. We took her to the vet and they ran her blood work again. Her platelets hadn't changed, but now all of her other numbers were low, and she had almost no white blood cells.

The vet was surprised at how happy and active Ellie was being despite her blood levels showing very grim results. They said normally dogs with test results like that are barely making it. Our vet told us to take her to a vet hospital where she would need more medical attention than they could provide.

We took her straight to the 24/7 vet hospital nearby.

Now she is fighting for her life at the emergency vet hospital. She needs several tests, blood transfusions, and medications.

Update #1
5/20/2024 5:45 am - From the Vet Hospital
Good morning, Ellie has been resting comfortably overnight. She finished her transfusion and has been a very sweet girl. The ICU Dr. will be in later and she will call with an update and plan of action moving forward.

Update #2
5/21/2024 3:30pm
Ellie's blood work did not improve from the transfusion and her red blood cells started to drop. They believe she had a cancer most likely leukemia.

Around 5pm we elected to take her home and let her spend some time at home with us and our other 2 dogs (Rhys and Fiona). She wasn't in any pain yet. We all four loved on her and told her how good of a girl she was. When she went to the bathroom she peed blood, we knew it was time to take her back. We didn't want her to suffer in any way. We got her some chicken nuggets, fruit and ice cream to eat on the way back. She loved the chicken and ate it all.
Around 10pm she was put to sleep.
