Help Elley Heal!

Those who know Elley would definitely agree that she is one of those unique people who lights up a room with her presence. Her joy and love of life are contagious and her down-to-earth caring nature makes everyone want her as their best friend.

On Friday June 18th, our sweet Elley was boating with friends and felt brave enough to leap from a high rope swing into the Potomac River. As she jumped, the slack in the rope (which was tethered to the tree limb from which she jumped) wrapped her ankle and went between her legs. Mid swing she came to an abrupt stop which caused a double spiral fracture to her humerus (upper arm), bruising of her radial nerve, and an acute injury to her groin. Since the rope was wrapped around her ankle, she did not submerge deep into the water. This was a miracle as she would not have been able to swim upwards. 9-1-1 was called and she was transported to the hospital where she stayed until Sunday morning.

At first, it was believed that Elley suffered her broken arm and a “normal” hematoma to her groin area; however, the groin injury, which required catheterization landed her back in the ER on Sunday night with a UTI. She had to have a catheter reinserted, began antibiotics and was sent home. Over the next several days her condition worsened.

On Wednesday, her pain levels and blood loss were so high, her mother called an ambulance to bring her back to the emergency room. Unfortunately, this experience was unproductive, the doctor negligent, and she was sent home without any help. She was told to wait it out and that it would get better.

Thursday morning, her mother went in to check on her to find her sitting in a pool of blood. Again, she called 9-1-1 to have Elley ambulanced to a different hospital desperate for help. This time, she was in the right place. The doctor called the gynecologist to assess her injury. Elley was taken to emergency surgery which lasted 1.5 hours and in which she underwent pretty major pelvic repair. Her hematoma was so deep, the doctor reached Elley’s pelvic bone as she removed dead tissue. Her pain has been excruciating, but if you know Elley, it has not crushed her spirit.

Elley spent Thursday, June 24th through Sunday 27th recovering from her surgery at Medstar Montgomery in Olney, MD. Thank God, Elley is finally home and can start her healing process.

In summary, Elley has spent 8 out of 11 days (at the time of writing this) in the hospital seeking some relief from her unfathomable pain. She has endured CT scans, x-rays, surgery, infection, and ongoing bladder problems. While she is safe and healing now, her path to recovery will include 6-12 months of orthopedic care and intense physical therapy. Right now she cannot move all of her fingers due to the radial nerve injury. We need her to move those fingers again on that piano!!!! She was made to worship and we are believing for a full recovery!

Elley found out today, June 30th, that she will need to have surgery to repair her arm. The ortho will place a metal plate on her bone in order to align it and help it heal. Her recovery will include 3 months in a splint and cast and 4-6 months of physical therapy 2-3 times per week after that. Her medical expenses and loss of employment will easily accumulate to that which is beyond her ability to pay.

I know that Elley is very loved, so I have created this fund so that we can rally around Elley, express our love for her, and hopefully help offset some of the financial burdens she will acquire from medical copays. We have an incredible opportunity to come together to support our dear sister and friend in her time of need. If you’ve read this far, thank you so much for your time and care!

Your generosity will carry Elley through this next year.  Thank you for any amount of contribution, for praying for Elley, and for sharing this fundraiser with friends and family!
