Help Ellen's Road to Recovery
Donación protegida
The last few weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster. Ellen had been fighting to recover after experiencing a horrible fall in which she had severely injured her head.
This injury stemmed from falling down a flight of stairs which left her lying unconscious for several hours before she was found and emergency services were rendered. Ellen was found unresponsive and had to be airlifted to UC medical center. Doctors had to remove a portion of her skull to allow for her brain room for the massive swelling. She was unresponsive for several days and then a MIRACLE, she began to move ever so slightly! The chances of her surviving were not good according to the neurologists due to such a traumatic brain injury, therefore the potential for her recovery had been in question. We, her family, have always been hopeful in her strength and ability to persevere.
Since then Ellen has had a tracheotomy and has undergone several procedures. Her progress is being monitored constantly and there have been signs of improvement. This is not going to be a short road but a long one for her recovery. She will require a lot of care for her recovery which will include extensive physical and speech therapy. There will be many challenges ahead of her among other health issues she was already facing on a daily basis.
Before her injury, Ellen was an avid animal lover, enjoyed riding horses, and being outdoors. She also worked in her professional life as an educator for students with special needs. She has always been a very giving and loving person, always willing to help those that needed it. Now it is our turn to help her. We believe Ellen has the strength but she may not have the finances for such long-term care. Any help will be extremely helpful. Thank you!
