We are raising money to give Elle financial security during chemotherapy. Donations will help cover her rent, essential living costs and the additional expenses of treatment and recovery. Most urgently, they will help protect the home she is now at risk of losing.
Elle is undergoing chemotherapy following major surgery. Her treatment means she is unable to work, just as her medical and day-to-day costs have increased. As treatment progresses, she will also have increasingly limited capacity to deal with the considerable administration surrounding her housing situation.
Elle had expected to have security in her home throughout this period. Instead, she has been left to manage the tenancy alone after the person who had previously committed to sharing that responsibility withdrew, leaving her financially exposed at the worst possible time.
To remain in her home, Elle now needs either to satisfy specific income and referencing requirements or secure a guarantor. Because chemotherapy prevents her from working, she cannot demonstrate the income required to pass standard referencing. A commercial guarantor may be possible, but would cost thousands of pounds at precisely the time when her income has stopped and her costs have risen.
Without a solution, there is a genuine risk that Elle could lose her home during chemotherapy.
Her home is close to the hospital where she receives treatment and, importantly, close to the friends supporting her through it. It is where she feels safe and where she needs to recover. The prospect of losing that stability has become an enormous source of anxiety when her energy needs to be directed towards her health.
We want to remove that worry.
The money raised will help provide the financial security needed to protect Elle’s tenancy, whether through the cost of a guarantor or an alternative arrangement that allows her to remain in her home. It will also help cover rent, essential living expenses and the additional treatment-related costs she faces while she is unable to earn.
Those of us close to Elle are already helping with time and support but we are opening this fundraiser so that the wider circle of people who care about her can help give her some security through the months ahead.
Every contribution, whatever the amount, means one less thing for Elle to worry about.
Right now, her energy needs to be focused on one thing: getting well.
