This is for my dear friend Elizabeth (Shumway) Whiffen who is suffering the unimaginable! Anyone who has had the privilege of knowing Liz knows what a light she is to the world. This month, Liz tragically and unexpectedly lost the love of her life, her husband Michael.

Along with the difficulty of grieving this immense loss, Liz is feeling the financial burden of funeral costs as well as the responsibility of supporting her household without Michael's income.

Liz is in surgery today, as I write this! She has been enduring and battling her own health problems. Her bladder, sadly, is on its last leg and may need to be removed. Her loving mom, always by her side and who lives with Liz, has been diagnosed and dealing with the impacts of lupus.

It is more than one person should have to endure. Liz and Michael lost their beloved daughter Alexandra in 2020. The grief of that loss is carried forever.
